State Police Arrest New Castle Man Following Fatal Motorcycle Crash in New Castle

The Delaware State Police have arrested 42-year-old Samuel Larkin, of New Castle, Delaware, for vehicular homicide and related traffic offenses, following a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred Saturday night in New Castle.

On August 15, 2026, at approximately 10:50 p.m., an Indian Scout motorcycle was traveling northbound, in the right lane, on US Route 13 approaching Schafer Boulevard. At the same time, a Mazda 6 was traveling westbound on Schafer Boulevard approaching US Route 13. The preliminary investigation revealed that the Mazda failed to stop and struck the motorcycle. When troopers spoke to the driver of the Mazda, identified as Samuel Larkin, he showed signs of impairment and was taken into custody without incident.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 54-year-old woman from New Castle, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital where she died. Her name is being withheld until her family is notified.

Larkin was taken to Troop 2, and after Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, he was charged with the crimes listed below, arraigned by the Justice of the Peace and committed to the Department of Correction on a $5,101 secured bond.

  • Vehicular Homicide Second Degree – Driving Under the Influence – Negligent Causing Death (Felony)
  • Driving a Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol
  • Failure to Stop at a Stop Sign

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.

The Delaware State Police Troop 2 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this crash. Troopers ask anyone who witnessed the collision, or has related video, to contact Master Corporal R. Kunicki by calling (302) 365-8417.
